My Life as it happens in all it's 8kb glory!
As coincidences go, this is not really not one but it still made me chuckle. This past weekend I went out for Thai food here in San Diego and had Thai Steak by recommendation of the waiter. By the time I had gotten to the car, I was already feeling lightheaded and my stomach was lurching and before we even made it around the corner I was “refunding” all over the car unfortunately. “Refunding” and Driving do not work out so well together. I’ll spare you pictures, just trust that it was not a pretty scene.

Sitting in a classroom for hours on end with no instructor waiting on other people to finish labs is not fun. Especially when the NBA playoffs are on TV and I should be watching them. At least I can catch the scores on my G1. Maybe I will post more to the blog.

They can't take away our Freedom, oh wait.
Who Watches the Wall-E?

We can’t tell you where or who, but pretty high up in AT&T’s food chain, the following was reported to be said:

  • New iPhone announcement around mid-June (duh)
  • New iPhone will be faster and have a more seamless experience unmatched by any device (could be just talking about 3.0, but we think it’s also a new iPhone)
  • U-Verse iPhone application; will allow control of your home DVR (play, pause, rewind, etc.)
  • The annual iPhone launch is “becoming a tradition.”
  • Nothing official is being confirmed, but they said that people should prep for an exciting time this summer.
  • AT&T is said to be working with Apple to create a unified product with an unparalleled experience across all their products and services.
  • Apple’s 3.0 software should tell us where the iPhone platform is going… uh, k?
  • They said customers shouldn’t need to choose from AT&T’s high-end devices because of features, they should choose based on preferences. The gap in capability should be filled with the new iPhone. Ok, bets on slide out QWERTY, autofocus camera, video sharing, blah blah?
  • Seems like the higher speed HSDPA (7.2Mbps) is being hinted at too which should confirm the earlier rumors of the new Infineon chipset.
  • The $99 3G netbook will start selling this summer, and the first one won’t be a Windows OS.

For clarification, the above is 100% confirmed.

100% confirmed or not this is all very exciting. It’s a great time to be an Apple fan.

At first I was more than skeptical about the last bullet point but when you consider the 10” screens that Apple is purported to have ordered and the fact that AT&T could make even more money off a Apple Netbook with integrated AT&T 3G it begins to be a little more plausible. I still think it’s unrealistic but June is shaping up to be the month of the year! Thank God I will be in the market for a new phone + other goodies.

Facebook’s redesign: Good concept, but not there yet » VentureBeat
Truth in Advertising

Well the announcement has come and gone and for the first time in a long time I am genuinely excited about the announcements Apple made today. Yes, I agree that most (if not all) of these features should have been included in the original iPhone but the fact is they weren’t and at least Apple is including them now as a Free Upgrade (Unless of course your an iPod touch owner and then it’s $9.95)

So here are some of the features to be included and my 2 cents:

•MMS - I’ve heard some people say that this is a feature that has been replaced by email but I disagree. True if your sending to another person that has an iPhone you could do that but contrary to what you might see not everyone has an iPhone and therefore doesn’t have email on their phone.

•Cut, Copy, Paste - Happy to see this is coming but to be honest I have done just fine without it to this point. However once it shows up I will probably be thinking “how did I ever live without this?”

•Select Multiple Photos - This could come in handy especially with my new blogging tool, Posterous.

•Push Notifications - If it really happens (and works properly) this time I will be shocked. It’s not as great as running background apps (For instance Satellite Radio while doing anything else) but it will help with battery life which the phone always needs.

•Spotlight for iPhone - This will search your phone for Contacts, Mail, Notes and Applications. It will even search mail on the server. Very Cool! Plus the new home screen implementation of search will be awesome as well.

•Tethering - A non starter for me because even if AT&T allows it, it will cost an arm and a leg to use. No thanks!

•Landscape Keyboard - For the longest time I wanted this feature but over time I have become accustomed and quite speedy on the other keyboard and I find now when I use landscape in some apps like Tweetie I misspell more words. I am sure I will readjust to it.

•New Calendar Support - This will be nice because I use some subscription calendars for sports team schedules as well as Facebook birthdays.

•Stock App Improvement - Yawn.

•Bluetooth Audio - Could be cool but I don’t have any devices that support it so no biggie right now. Leo Laporte says if you snowboard and have a helmet that supports it than you would be loving this feature. Hmmm. Not much snowboarding in Hawaii or in the Pacific.

•Notes Synching - This is long overdue and a welcome feature for me

•Voice Memo - Ok, I get this with Evernote but it is cool that you will be able to send them via MMS

•P2P - This will allow you to connect to another single iPhone in Bluetooth range for gaming. Could be cool for file transfers, contact info, etc.

•Turn by Turn directions - Ok but I like my Garmin just fine.

•Google Maps inside Native Apps - This could make any core location based program that much more awesome.

Well that’s most of the features that have been made public but since access to the SDK started today I am sure we will start to hear more and more potential features leading up to “this summer.” Speaking of this summer I am a little weary of that timeline. I would have liked to have heard a more solid date or at least a month they have in mind for this release. No matter when it comes out, it will be a much needed, much appreciated release for the majority of people.

My iPhone 3.0 Reaction
Predator X (Zoo FX) Researchers believe “Predator X” could have fed on other big reptiles

A giant fossil sea monster found in the Arctic had a bite that would have been able to crush a 4x4 car, according to its discoverers.

Researchers say the marine reptile, which measured an impressive 15m (50ft) long, had a bite force of about 45 tonnes (33,000lbs) per square inch.

The creature’s partial skull was dug up last summer in the Arctic archipelago of Svalbard by a Norwegian-led team.

Dubbed “Predator X”, it patrolled the oceans some 147 million years ago.

Its jaws may have been more powerful than those of a Tyrannosaurus rex, though estimates of the dinosaur’s bite vary substantially.

It is thought to belong to a new species of pliosaur - a group of large, short-necked reptiles that lived at the time of the dinosaurs.

But even by the standards of this group, the creature’s size has astonished scientists.

Its estimated length exceeds that of another large pliosaur, dubbed “The Monster”, which was uncovered in Svalbard a year earlier than this one.

Expedition leader Jorn Harald Hurum said the “The Monster” would have been big enough to chomp on a small car. He said the bite estimates for the latest fossil forced a re-think.

This one, he said, might have been able to “crush a Hummer”, referring to General Motors’ large 4x4 vehicle.

Researchers say the shape and proportional size of the brain bears a resembles to another “apex predator”: the great white shark.
